T. J. MOTLOGELWA’S
EXPRESS (PTY) LTD was established in 1978 with a one 15
seater combi which operated locally in Selebi-Phikwe. In 1991
the company was issued the permit to transport people between
Selebi Phikwe to Serule, Selebi Phikwe to Palapye, where another
15 seater was bought. In 1982 three 25 seater Civilian combis
were bought. 1983 two more 25 seaters were bought to operate
Selebi Phikwe to Francistown, Selebi Phikwe to Bobonong. In 1984
a 50 seater bus operated the route of Gaborone – Molepolole and
in 1985 a 65 seater operated between Selebi Phikwe to
Francistown.
As the company grew bigger,
more routes and busses were needed so in 1986 the fleet
increased by four busses, two of which were for Selebi Phikwe –
Gaborone routes. Between 1987 and 1989 the fleet increased by
about 8 busses. In 1990 its 10th anniversary, the
company was in a position to purchase brand new 65-seater busses
and between 1990 and 1999 it bought about 30 brand new luxury
coaches and about 5 used luxury coaches. During this period of
course the routes increased between Selebi Phikwe-Gaborone,
Selebi Phikwe - Francistown, Francistown - Maun, Gaborone -
Serowe, Gaborone-Francistown, Gaborone-Ghantsi and
Gaborone-Tsabong. This brought about the establishment of
another company, T. J. COACH LINES (PTY) LTD which is
based in Gaborone and over-sees, the Gaborone - Ghantsi,
Gaborone - tsabong and Gaborone - Francistown routes.
Twenty years later the
company was still in business and one of the largest and best in
public transport in the country. In 2000 it invested in 2 60
seaters super luxury coaches built by Marcopolo in Brazil and in
2001 a 70-seater super luxury Double Deck built by Busscar in
Brazil. In 2002 saw the purchase of 70 seater luxury Volvo and
in 2003 the fleet increased by 2 70 seater luxury Marcopolo
Scanias. In 2004 the company raised the stakes when it bought a
Man Paradiso HD in late November, the only one in the country
and of course operates in the Gaborone - Johannesburg route.
December of that year two Man Viaggios were bought.
In 2005 the status of the
best public transport company, not only in the number of buses,
but style class and luxury, was once again made certain when a
Man Explorer and 6 Marco polo, Scania Double Decks were added to
the fleet. Today T. J. MOTLOGELWA’S EXPRESS is the only
company in this country with 10 super luxury coaches, 7 of which
are double decks, 2 60 seaters Volvo B12 Marcopolo Paradiso HD
and a 50-seater Man Marcopolo Paradiso HD. Given the History of
this company, it is only logical to state that more
state-of-the-art super luxury coaches, from train buses to
Double Decks are still to come. There is only one phrase that
comes to mind when thinking of such a company where the sky is
the limit, “simply the best”
